Custom made leather jackets, cut to your measurements — from $389

A store-bought jacket is cut to a size.
Ours is cut to a person.

We are tailors first — a Hội An house that has been cutting to measure since 1999 — and we work in leather the way we work in cloth: a pattern drawn to one person's body before a knife touches the hide. It is the only kind of leather jacket worth keeping long enough to hand on.

These are reviews of our tailoring house in Hội An — the same workshop, the same people, the same address. They are about cloth rather than hide: the leather line is new, and nobody has reviewed a jacket yet. We would rather tell you that than let you assume otherwise.

Nathan Tailors was recommended to me by someone while we were in Vietnam, so I went in to get a satin skirt tailored and it was a very quick turnaround, they made this in just over 24 hours! I went back the next evening for a fitting and it fit me perfectly on the first try. Sarah was so lovely and has done an amazing job, thank you so much! I will definitely be back here on my next trip to Hoi An!

Top quality suits, they measured my sizes and did my suit from scratch in 3 hours and it was perfect. Price is very good as well, a bit cheaper than the other places I found in the city. I paid 220 euros for a 3 piece suit made of wool and cashmere. Super recommend it.

Had the best experience here. Ngao & Sau was the most happy and friendly people I have met in Vietnam. The suits they made for me was perfectly made to my measures😊Be prepared to spend way to much in here. It is cheap, so you end up changing your whole wardrobe🙌

Before you send anyone your measurements

We are a shop you can walk into. Here is how to check.

Ordering a jacket from a workshop on the other side of the world is a reasonable thing to be careful about. Everything below is something you can verify without taking our word for it — the address on a map, the listing with its reviews, the parent business that has been trading in the same street since 1999.

If you are ever in Hội An, come in. Most of what we make leaves the country in a box, but the workshop is on Trần Hưng Đạo and the door is open half past eight until nine.

Why custom, on this garment above all

Only a jacket cut to somebody is worth handing to somebody else

Leather is the one garment that cannot be corrected later. Cloth has seam allowance and gives with wear; a tailor can take a suit in or let it out for thirty years. Hide is cut once, and every stitch line leaves permanent holes — unpick a seam and the scar stays. Whatever a leather jacket is on the day it is made, it is for good.

Which is why buying one off a rail is a strange thing to do. The rails run S, M, L, XL — two-inch jumps — and one pattern is stretched across the whole run, so the proportions are only truly right for whoever sits in the middle of it. On a jacket meant to sit close, a centimetre in the sleeve or half an inch across the shoulder is the entire difference.

So a jacket that was cut to a man carries a record of him. The shoulders are his shoulders. Thirty years on, that is the difference between inheriting a jacket and inheriting his jacket.

Hội An, Quảng Nam

A town that has been cutting to measure for four hundred years

Hội An was a working international port before it was a UNESCO site — Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese and Dutch merchants traded here from the sixteenth century, and the town has made things to order for foreign customers ever since. Today it is where travellers go to have clothes and shoes made in a week.
